Arkham Travel Guide is a roll and write game where players explore the grim, narrow streets of Arkham, filled with curio shops, mysterious Gates, and horrible places. In this game, players are not unfortunate citizens, investigators, or cultists. Instead, they take on the role of travel guides, creating tour routes through a city they know like the back of their hand.
During the game, players roll and collectively choose dice that determine where tourists can be drawn and routes can be charted. This system gives players a fair degree of control over the randomness of the dice and allows for strategic planning.
The goal is to create a route with as many tourists and landmarks of different types as possible, as these score victory points. Before the end of the game, players are confronted by one of the Old Ones: Cthulhu, Yog-Sothoth, Dagon, or Shub-Niggurath. Depending on how well horrible places were avoided and how special abilities granted by otherworldly creatures were used, players either gain rewards or lose tourists.
At the end of the game, tourists and attractions in city blocks along each route earn victory points. Additional victory points are awarded for Personal Objectives and Old Ones’ rewards. The player with the most victory points wins the game.
